How to Start an Awesome Online Shop in Six Simple Steps

Have you ever dreamed of having your own shop with your own designs? This was a dream of mine for many, many years. This year, that dream came true for me with FiveInspired!!!

It can be an easier launch than you think. Today, I’m going to map out the steps I took to push FiveInspired live. You can visit my shop to get a feel of what your online boutique can look like!

Step 1

Determine what your shop’s personality will be. This is going to help you determine your target audience. Who will you be designing for? After careful thought and consideration, I made the determination that I wanted my boutique to be an extension of my blog. I wanted to make clothing that had inspirational messages on them for my audience.

Step 2

Start sketching out some ideas and brainstorming. I keep a notebook with a running list of slogans and design ideas. You should have a handful of ideas before you start creating. This gives you some wiggle room if you’re first design idea isn’t quite panning out.

Step 3

Set up your Spreadshop account. Their platform is super easy to use. Pick your name for your shop and fill out your about me’s.

Step 4

Get designing. I use Canva to create my designs. I find the platform so easy to use and affordable if you choose to upgrade. Your designs can be as simple or as complex as you desire. It’s all up to you – this is your space to create!

Step 5

Upload your designs to your Spreadshop and design your products. They have a simple walk through step by step process to follow. After you’ve decided your satisfied with your products, push them live and launch your shop!

Step 6

Promote, promote, promote. Share your new venture with friends and family. Post on social media. You got this!

My Best Tricks and Tips for Managing Your Inbox With Ease

I don’t know about you but the amount of emails I get in my inbox on a daily basis can easily swallow up my whole day. There’s an email for everything and from everyone now a days. I have email for the office, I have my personal email, I have my blogging email, we have messages from social media accounts – we are constantly being hit by numerous notes and communication. Keeping your inbox organized and in control will not only help you feel calmer but it will also improve your productivity.

Create folders

Keeping organized folders will help you assign your messages to projects and tasks.

Set up rules

In most email accounts you can set up rules that will send the email directly to the folders you have assigned them to. I find this especially helpful at the office.

Unsubscribe to junk mail

If it isn’t information that is relevant to you don’t allow it to clog up your inbox.

Use programs or apps to manage promotional emails

I use unroll.me. I’ve been using this for a few years and I love it. It collects all of the emails I assigned to it into one place and then I receive one daily email to link to it.

Set designated times to check emails

Schedule out email time to allow you to review your emails. I check my emails once in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening. Though this doesn’t work for me for when I’m in the office because our prime communication method is email this is great for my personal and blog email accounts. This keeps me from getting stuck reading email after email and losing track of time.

  4. Don’t beat yourself when something goes wrong – I know this can be a super tough one. Especially for us biz owners that tend to be uber self critical. But cut yourself some slack. Use these mishaps as learning opportunities.
  5. Set boundaries – don’t let too much slip onto your plate at one time. There is only so much that can be completed in a day. Learn your limits and say no when you need to.

7 Steps to Build Out the Ultimate Business Plan

At the end of last year I did some power planning for this year. My process allowed me to determine how and where I wanted to expand.

As a result, I compiled a step by step guide to building the ultimate business plan. Whether you run a side hustle, an online business, or are working on monetizing your blog, these steps will help you set yourself up for success.

First, you need to determine what your goals are.

One crazy thing about me is that I have so many goals – like so many goals. What I’ve learned though is that they ultimately all add up to one big, beautiful dream. With that being said, I needed to really pull out what my specific goals were going to be for the year.

Start by making a list of what you want to see manifest this year. Then translate those into concrete, realistic goals.

Determine what the actions are that you need to take to reach those goals.

Are there specific products that you need to create? Do you need to enroll in some skill building classes? Determine what specific actions need to be put into place.

Do some thorough market research.

This includes who your current audience is. It also includes research of who your target audience should be. Does the audiences you have in line match up with who you should be talking to? Identify if you need to make adjustments in your plans.

Set specific monetary and growth goals for the year.

To build a solid marketing plan, first you need to determine what your specific growth goals are. You should include every avenue that you plan on growing when you build this out. This includes blog views, social followers, Facebook Group members, etc. Once you have your growth goals set you can start planning out more specifically how you are going to reach those goals.

Build out your editorial or promotional calendar.

This is important because it gives you a big picture look at your next several months or year. I will typically build out a skeleton calendar and then fill in more specifically as I get closer to the dates.

Having a plan sketched out on a calendar will set a plan for you to follow and helps you see if there are any gaps that need filled throughout the year.

Create specific marketing plan.

This includes the more nitty gritty stuff. A complete marketing plan will include anything from promoting content and offers to current followers as well as reaching new audiences through paid promotions, referrals and networking.

Build out the game plans to implement.
